We all know at least one person who struggled with weight loss and nutrition behaviours. Could health coaching help them? Help us? Health coaching consists of a trained coach that uses behaviour change and helps clients set health goals and monitor them.
A review (Kennel, 2018) evaluated 11 trials of health coaching that used either professional coaching, peer coaching or mentoring groups. This programs aimed at participants with problems ranging from obesity to cardiovascular, hypertension and general wellness.
For the most part, participants reported a loss in weight (5.7%-9.1%) in a six month interval. This was achieved by having a first in person session followed by phone and online sessions.
